Laminated glass is not technically considered a security glass type however, if entry is being gained via ordinary float or annealed glass; laminated glass could be a cheaper alternative to installing security glass. Laminated safety glass is made by laminating two panels of ordinary annealed glass together using a plastic interlayer. This holds the glass together upon impact rather than it falling apart like ordinary glass.

Toughened laminated glass is made exactly how it sounds and much in the same way as laminated glass. The main difference with toughened laminated glass is that the two panels laminated together using the plastic interlayer are put into a toughening furnace first. This makes the surface area of the glass much stronger than ordinary glass. Toughened laminated safety glass is also the same type of glass used in the majority of roof awnings, balustrades and trafficable glass.

Bullet proof glass is a tricky area of which many people get very confused about. Some think that the projectile is actually bouncing off the glass, which is untrue. Ballistic rated glass is made much the same way as all the above mentioned glass types, by combining layers of glass with layers of plastic. The principle behind it is to slow to bullet down so that it gets trapped within the panel of glass and does not pass through. Bullet proof glass is a highly standardised area which carries alot of regulations which must be adhered to.
