Rubies are essentially red sapphires they possess all the durability, rarity, and physical properties of sapphire, making them perfect for high quality jewellery pieces. Alexandrite is arguably the rarest and most desirable of all non diamond coloured stone. In top quality a natural Alexandrite will be a rich and beautiful blue green colour when viewed in natural sun light. The same stone viewed in fire or incandescent light will show a rich purple red. Named after Russian tsar Alexander II (1818-1881) Alexandrite has always been difficult to source in fine quality due to high demand and extreme rarity. Metal Urges has formed a personal relationship with a small family mining business in Brazil that brings a handful of Alexandrite to market each year - we buy only their best pieces. Metal Urges also supply a few other rare and beautiful gem stones to compliment our diamond, sapphire, ruby, alexandrite and pearls. Stones from the Beryl group of gems including Aquamarine and Emerald are sourced on request.

Pearls are the sea's great gift to the jewellery designer and collector. Available in an array of colours, shapes and sizes there is something to suit every client. At Metal Urges we work exclusively with white and gold south sea pearls from Australia, black and green pearls from french Polynesia and the cook islands and for smaller items Japanese Akoya pearls are used. We are also proud to offer a range of Keshi and Baroque pearls from a variety of locations.
