IndicationsEquine Bute Paste is a non-steroidal antiinflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic oral paste for the relief of painful musculoskeletal conditions in horses. Equine Bute Paste aids in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions and soft tissue injuries in horses where anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic activity would be beneficial. Phenylbutazone inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase there by preventing the formation of arachidonic acid derived inflammatory mediators thromboxane, prostaglandin and prostacyclins. Phenylbutazone is 96-99% bound to plasma proteins and is eliminated by hepatic metabolism. The serum half-life of phenylbutazone is dose dependant, ranging in the horse from 3.5 hours at a dose of 2g/450kg to 6 hours at a dose of 8g/450kg bodyweight. Therapeutic efficacy of the drug may last for about 24 hours, probably due to irreversible binding of the drug to cyclooxygenase. Active Constituents

It contains Omeprazole, a dose-dependent inhibitor of gastric acid secretion which acts as a proton pump inhibitor. Omeprazole is proven to inhibit equine gastric acid secretion to maintain gastric acidity at a non-aggressive level which allows ulcers to heal within two weeks of commencing therapy, and prevents re-occurrence of ulcers at a maintenance dose.
